It's a BOY!!!

After much anticipation... and a few surprises...  We finally got to meet our healthy baby boy... Patrick Gilmore Purser!  He was born November 20th, 7 pounds 14 ounces and 20 inches long.

As my luck always seems to have it... at 3 am the morning of my induction... I went into labor... just like I had with Thatcher.  I waited until my 9 am time to go into Riverton hospital labor and delivery.  When I got there... I was dilated to a 3 and 90% effaced and they immediately broke my water and started my IV.  After about an hour... my labor hadn't progressed anymore than it had during the night.. regular, non painful contractions every 4-5 minutes.  They upped my pitocin and we waited... another hour... same story.  And then again.  By noon I told the nurse that this wasn't normal for me.  Normally my body goes crazy on pitocin and they have to slow it down or stop it all together.  She informed me that I was at the highest dose I could receive and that I just needed to be patient.  I asked her if she would double check my IV to make sure that everything was okay and she discovered that she hadn't actually hooked up the pitocin so I wasn't getting anything but fluids.  She was super embarrassed but it ended up being a good thing... otherwise, I would have had the baby by noon and most of my family would have missed it.  My poor mom had to work that day until noon so this made it possible for her to be there.  Also, because she felt so bad... she was more lenient on the number of people she let me have in the room.  After she hooked me up to the pitocin... she checked me... minimal to no progress.  After about 45 minutes... the contractions were coming like crazy (my normal response to the meds) and everyone decided to go grab lunch while I got my epidural.  The entire time they were doing it... I had a tough time holding still.  I felt so much pressure and was pretty uncomfortable.  Also, the contractions were right on top of each other.  I remember the anesthesiologist telling me to "hold still... I have a large needle in your back and I don't want to paralyze you."  Before the meds even had a chance to start working... I told the nurse that I felt like the baby was right there and ready.  She told me I was crazy... I was at a 4 less than an hour ago and had made such slow progress before that.  I asked her if she would just double check and she did.  She was shocked... the Babies head had already crowned.  We immediately called everybody back and I told the nurse that I had to hold him in so that Emerson could get there too.  Twenty minutes later... everyone (Tanner, mom, dad, Shauna, Grandma Annie and Emerson) were in the room and the doctor was ready to go (Dr. England).  I assumed Emerson would hang up by  my head with my dad but she had to be right next to the Dr. asking a million questions and super interested in everything that was going on.  One push and HE was out.  The Dr. even let Eme tell everyone what the baby was... a BOY!  It couldn't have gone any better or smoother.  He was beautiful!  Every worry and fear that I had experienced during my pregnancy immediately vanished and I was so grateful to my heavenly father for this amazing miracle.  After a very quick 24 hours in the hospital... we got to take our precious new baby home.  My recovery was super easy and the only bummer was that his bilirubin was high and we had to keep checking it for 10 days and keep him on lights. Other than that... zero complications and we were in love.  I did nothing but hold that precious boy for months... and months.  I can't imagine my life without him and I am eternally grateful that he was watched over and protected during my crazy pregnancy.
